Performer Biographies for both days (2008)

Bahijia
Bahijia has been a belly dancer for the past 18 years performing solo as well as with my troupe at various venues in the Washington, DC area.

Bard of Stagg (Both Days)
Gretchen McMahon, Bard of Stagg, enchants with tunes of the ancients and Fae on Guitar, Celtic harp and Mandolin In her Irish persona, she spreads the mystery of myth and legend.

Bill Mayhew (both days)
He's a character larger than life who tells tales taller than the sky. As tricky as he is charming, don't be surprised if you find yourself in the middle of one of his stories!

Brigid Ashwood (Both Days)
A mythic artist living in Maryland, she draws inspiration from Celtic Myth, Classic Fantasy and Victorian Steampunk themes. Clockwork Dolls, Goddesses, Wise Woman, Fairies, and Pin-Up Witchy Women are archetypes she is fond of painting. Eternally eclectic - her style is heavily influenced by that of the Pre-Raphaelites, Art Nouveau, WWII era pin-up art, Trompe L’Oeil, Japanese Manga and Comic Book art. She is comfortable in many mediums - particularly tempera grassa, oil, silverpoint and watercolor and has recently moved successfully into digital painting. Her work can been seen in several fantasy book compilations, on licensed products sold worldwide and in cherished collections both public and private.

Caroline Kenner (both days)
Down in the woods you'll find her, an enchanting Lady with a deep and profound knowledge of the Fey and how to speak to them- to show them hospitality in a "faerie house" or to send them your hopes and dreams thru the thousands year old custom of "wishing trees". Drop by the Wishing Tree Area and let her help you create your own Faerie Tale in this world!

Clam Chowder (Saturday)
Performing locally for over 30 years, the Clams have a solid reputation for breathing new life into traditional standards and making the most obscure music familiar-all with fine instrumentals and superlative vocal harmony. What's more, their devoted following is notorious for singing along in harmony as well!

David LaFluer (both days)
With a rich tenor voice and a mastery of the guitar, dobro, mandolin, and dulcimer, David LaFleur has been performing his unique mixture of folk, blues, and bluegrass for over 20 years. A former nuclear engineer turned full-time musician, he has received honors in eight national songwriting contests, has performed at the Kennedy Center, and has three times been a featured performer at the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival.

The Enchanted Wagon (both days)
Queen Tatiania of the Faeries has come to the aid of Corwin the Hedgehog who, along with his giant turtle Flash, has become lost and cannot find his way back to Faerie Land. Help them find their way home!

Faerie Treasure Hunt Invitation (Both Days)
The twilight court welcomes kids of all ages to embark on a quest collecting what seems like mundane treasures, but which can be exchanges for a faerie treasure at the end (art donated by Jessica Galbreth).

A Fairie and her Unicorn (both days)
Robin has brought her gentle companion to our festival to meet you all and put a little magic in our lives. Some say there are no real unicorns left. We prefer to believe!

Faerie Court (both days)
From the land of faerie we are visited by the Royalty of the Courts of Dawn and the Twilight Courts as well. Each court will lead a maypole dance, and host their own courts throughout the day.

Greenman March
Sponsored by the Beloved Order of the Greenman (BOG), a fraternal order dedicated to promoting the ancient concept of the Greenman. Come witness as the greenmen emerge from the woods to bless the festival, and encourage both community and respect for your environment.

Gypsy Nomads (Both days, Summerfest)
Gypsy Celtic Medieval Rock. This unique national touring duo from New York creates a powerful visual and sonic landscape. Featuring punk veteran Scott Helland on guitar, loops and drums and French artist/dancer Samantha Stephenson on percussion, drums and vocals. www.scotthelland.com

Herb Talk with Barbara Grose
This class is on medicinal kitchen spices, and discusses the medicinal, traditional and mystical qualities of 10 to 15 everyday kitchen spices, i.e., rosemary, thyme and basil. Questions welcome throughout. Barbara Grose has a Master of Science Degree in Herbal Medicine from Tai Sophia Institute. She believes that healing comes from within and is supported through herbs, lifestyle diet and education.

Jessica Galbreth (Saturday)
Jessica began her art career in 1999 with a modest web site. Since that time, she has really captured the public eye, and is perhaps most celebrated for her ability to capture the haunting and often mysterious beauty of goddesses and faeries from mythology. Each of her visions brought to life on paper have a personality of their own, and often evoke strong feelings in those who view them. Some of her faeries are elegant, sweet and wistful, while others are defiant, dark and powerful.

The Amazing Trinket (Both Days)
Born after an eclipse of the moon and raised in the wilds of the Appalachian mountains. Her mother - a photographer and fine southern lady - raised her right. Her father - a magician and former green beret - raised her wild. From these humble beginnings she has developed her expertise in the performing arts, focusing on the skills of contact juggling, clowning, stilt walking, magic and fire performance.

Growing Green - Alexia Savold
This talk will discuss native plantings in the landscaped areas and heirloom vegetable crops of the National Colonial Farm’s museum garden at the Accokeek Foundation. Presented by Alexia Savold, a Horticulturist of the Accokeek Foundation in Southern Maryland.

ilyAIMY (both days, Summerfest on Saturday night)
ilyAIMY has been on U.S. tour four years as a duo, but as the duo or the full quartet, they are combustible acoustic performance, featuring African and Irish percussion, award-winning songwriting and signature male/female harmonies.

Kiva (both days)
Using mythological stories and images, KIVA weaves a rainbow tapestry of ancient cultures and natural imagery into energizing mystical folk music for all ages.

Maugorn The Stray (both days)
Maugorn (aka Steve Haug) has been a wandering minstrel most of his lives and offers an eclectic repertoire collected from many centuries and a keliedoscope of styles. His favorite songs contain a hint of Faerie Magick. He'll sing your old favourites as well.

Mythica (both days)
Inspired by artists like Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Dave Matthews and Radiohead, and by traditional Irish and World music, Mythica’s sound is a melting pot of genres, including rock, alternative, ambient, bluegrass, folk and Celtic.

Pirates for Sail (http://www.piratesforsail.com)
We are Pirates For Sail, the Crew of the Proud Ship the Drunken Ferret. We have been performing in and around Baltimore and the mid-Atlantic for 3 years, from twice-weekly appearances on board the tall ship Clipper City for 3 seasons, to weekly appearances at Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring to appearances for 2500 guests at Vane Bros. Shipping to Class Reunions at the U.S. Naval Academy. We have the Drunken Ferret T'Barnacle Choir performing from our growin' repertoire of 50 pieces, including old seagiong chanteys, some original pieces written by our crew, various Gaelic style ballads and Irish pub songs in 5 part harmony with guitar, fiddle and percussion instrumentation. We can also provide our own sound apparatus for larger venues. But we be more than just musicians. We are interactive, preferring to mix with and among the crowds, spouting the glory and history of piracy and privateering whilst the choir mucks about on stage. (trivial fact - we wouldn’t have a National Anthem were it not for pirates). We can offer the services of from 4 to up to 20 pirates with hands-on demonstrations of period firearms, basic swordfighting demonstrations, skits, comedy & even bellydancing for them's that wants it. We offer piracy for all occasions.

The Raven (both days)
His origin is obscure, and his antics are strange. But The Raven is clearly an amazing creature who has come to join our revelry. You will be awed!

Rock Savage (both days)
A true renaissance man, independent filmmaker who made his mark with films like "Mondo Pagan" and "Hardboiled Heroes", Rock is also a storyteller and a preschool teacher. He recounts faery tales and magical tales with dynamic greatness, adding his own humor!

Jeremiah Wiggins (both days)
No ordinary teller of tall tales, Jeremiah publishes "The Daily Crock", a magazine wherein he dares to tell the untold truth about our familiar faerie tale friends. His stories are hilarious and worth every grain of salt they cost to publish!

L.W. Woods (both days)
She has a knowledge of Myth and Folklore that is astonishing in its breadth and thoroughness. But no dry scholar is she. She has the ability to make the past real and alive, and she uses this ability to take stories, even the most obscure imaginable, and fashion them into familiar favorites that you'll swear you've always known.

Sidhe Na Dair (Saturday)
Danielle Ackley-McPhail has worked both sides of the publishing industry for over a decade. She has used her talent and her passion for writing to expand her knowledge of the rich mythology of her Celtic heritage and to make her mark in the world of fantasy.

Telesma (Sunday, Summerfest on Saturday night)
Blending ancient and modern instrumentation and spirit, Baltimore-based Telesma bridges the gap between primal and futuristic, setting itself apart with their intoxicating sound and extraordinary live performances. The group’s sound, which has been labeled "electro-acoustic psychedelic world dance music", is driven by the primal voices of the didgeridoo, the kubing, tribal drums and percussion and the human voice. These elements are fused with modern instruments to create a trance-like pulse not unlike that heard in modern electronic dance music.

Stav Galdre Stances
A Galdre is a norse form of magic that involves chanting and ritual body movement. Come learn the Trell Galdre, the fundamental basis of all the Stav Galdres. The Trell Galdre helps you loosen your body, raise energy and create a mindset to help you with your day. Presented by Ice & Fire USA is a club which teaches the European mind-body-spirit system known as Stav. Ages 10-adult

The Five Principles of Stav
A presentation with hand to hand and weapons or staves. Students will learn the Five Principles of Stav and how adopting an appropriate mindset for a person or situation can help one win out. We will discuss the creation of the types of mankind, a small amount of mythology and then demo the 'example' responses. Ages teen to adult

Three Left Feet (Sunday)
(or "Thrir Venstri Foetr" in old Norse)-- for the past 25 years 3LF has performed and taught Medieval and Renaissance Dances at schools and festivals in the Washington D.C area.

Troupe Hipnotic (Saturday)
Based in southern Maryland, Troupe ‘Hip’notic’s eclectic dance flavor is influenced by both traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern dance; drawing elements from cabaret, Turkish, Greek, folkloric Egyptian, American Tribal Style (ATS) and tribal fusion.

Ms. Fairy Una Wildwood: Storytelling, Poetry, Music and children's performance artist.

Fairy Magic: How to Bring Fairies into Your Life
Rosemary Ellen Guileywill talk about ways to make contact with the fairy realm, and how to validate communication. She is the author of Fairy Magic and 31 other books on paranormal and metaphysical topics. Fairy Magic is based on her own experiences and extensive research.

OCEAN Orchestra (Sunday)
From mystical Celtic vocals to the stirring skirl of the Pipes, OCEAN is Celtic Music for Ancient Moderns!  Called “Nothing short of spellbinding” by the Washington Post, OCEAN is an all-star ensemble of internationally known musicians led by composer Jennifer Cutting (accordion & keyboards), featuring the two stunning vocalists Grace Griffith and Lisa Moscatiello, award-winning bagpiper Bob Mitchell, and fiery fiddler Cheryl Hurwitz.
